Damian Mills, manager of the Ladies Development team, has revealed his message for the fans ahead of the weekend’s momentous occasion. Sunday the 19th of January brings our very first Ladies Super Sunday of the season as both our First Team and Development team take to the pitch at the Everyone’s Energy Kayte Lane Stadium against Longlevens and Cinderford Town respectively.

Speaking after their final training session ahead of the game, Mills gave this passionate call to action:

“Get along, get your friends, get your neighbours, your auntie, your uncle, bring everybody along. There’s a DJ, there’s all sorts of action and activity.

“I just hope everybody has a really nice day and enjoys themselves and comes and supports both teams.

“There’s a real buzz if excitement around the place, it’s been absolutely fantastic. It has been a long time coming but I’ve really looked forward to this occasion.”

Mills has led the side for over a decade, taking them from the very start to the very end of youth football at Prestbury Phantoms and found himself in need of finding the next step for his side. We at Bishops Cleeve are incredibly proud to have been able to offer them a new home in a historic first venture into adult football for Mills’ side at the best facilities in the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League.

They have found themselves in a title fight with the potential to go top of the league with victory over Cinderford, speaking on the game itself Mills added:

“I’m just looking for the team to play with a bit of confidence, we really want them to believe in themselves. We’ve got a lot of young players in the team and we’ve got some older players as well and I want those older players to really step up and support the younger players.

“I know that when we go through a game, we always that extra ability to have a bit of stamina and a bit of fight and a bit of spirit!”

It has been quite the season so far for Mills’ squad, they’re challenging for promotion against established and more experienced teams and have made themselves and the club proud already.

“You know this is our first season as the Ladies Development and it’s been a really good season so far. You know, it’s nice to get a few wins under our belt and we’ve played in some cup competitions and played some higher league teams, we’ve played some teams above us and we’ve competed and that’s probably all I could have asked for at the start of the season.

The day at the Everyone’s Energy Kayte Lane Stadium begins with the Ladies First Team against Longlevens AFC in Division One of the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League at 14:00 with the Development side kicking off at 16:30 as they face Cinderford Town in Division Three.

It is free entry throughout the day and we hope that you can join us to smash our record attendance, with currently stands at 49, and help us hit triple digits!
